The Ultimate Question: Is Global Warming Stoppable?

Global warming is caused by an increase in the greenhouse gases, such as Carbon Dioxide. These gases cause the earth's temperature to heat up through absorption and radiation.

Before we can answer that question we must point out the various types of greenhouse gases:
  • Water (about 35-70%)
  • Carbon Dioxide ( about 10-25%)
  • Methane (about 5-10%)
  • Ozone (about 3-7%)
We really can't control the amount of water in the atmosphere as most of it is provided through the evaporation of water in the large water bodies that make up the earth's surface.
Carbon Dioxide and Methane are, however, controllable. In fact, it is because of our human carelessness that an unbalance has been caused in the Carbon Cycle. But we'll get back to that later, in some other post.

So now that we have summarized the causes of global warming, we have come one step closer to answering the ultimate question.

Many people, experts and the mediocre human, suggest that global warming is just a phase that the earth undergoes every now and then and all will be well once the atmosphere comes to a rest.

So it just a phase?

The earth is heating up, the consequences are inevitable. Water levels are rising all over the world, in some parts of the world villages by the coasts have been flooded... their cry surpassed by the daunting power of oil. Oil and other fossil fuels are the major source of energy today. They produce trillions of tons of CO2 every year. So will the reduction in oil usage stop global warming?

Humans have for long destroyed trees to create communities and for other wide array of reasons. This loss of trees has caused a major change in the CO2 cycle. This unbalance in the carbon cycle leads to an increase in temperature. A slight increase in the temperature of the earth will create an environment unsuitable for some of the essential plants and organisms that inhabit the earth. For example, the coral reefs, a major part of the aquatic food web, are extremely temperature sensitive and because of an increase in the temperature of the world's water bodies, these organisms are quickly dieing out. Similarly the polar bears on the poles have also become a prey to the ever-occurring phenomenon. They barely have enough land to occupy due to the melting ice.

What happens next?

A cycle begins, organism after organism becomes extinct. Can we save them all? Or more importantly, can we save them in sufficient quantities?

There are some 6 billion humans on our mother earth. All of these humans require O2 and breathe out CO2. Much of this O2 is provided by plants and algae. Much of our CO2 is converted to O2 by plants. What happens if there are not enough plants left?

Of course, we humans could build huge dome-like structures that are rich with oxygen... bury our problems by creating bigger problems... but how long will that last, what will we use to create the oxygen? More importantly, is it going to settle the temperature or is it going to create a rapidly changing environment?

We will probably throw out our CO2 into the atmosphere won't we? Most of the transport vehicles today run on oil which produces CO2. We have created an environmentally friendly car called the hybrid car. For some reason, I don't think it's a success. It's not that I cannot find a reason, it's just that there are too many. I guess these two are the main ones.

1. It runs on electricity, what provides the energy to produce electricity at the end? Fossil fuels.
2. Most commuters are used to a fast method of car refueling. They're not used to waiting 8 hours for the car to charge up. I guess that's why some of them run on oil once the electricity runs out.

So basically everything, from energy to autos is a major user of fossil fuels. So is global warming stoppable?

Yes, It Is. After centuries of permanent damage to the earth, global warming will stop once the carbon cycle is brought back to it's normal proportions. That means, to stop global warming (or at least stop it)billions of innocent men, women and children must give up their lives. Not to mention the animals. Who decides who gets to live? Simply turn on CNN. Except for the reporters and the citizens, everyone else on T.V gets to live. Even the corrupt ones, the murderers and the ones who are responsible for putting us in this mess anyways.

I think I am getting a bit to over myself. WE CAN STILL ALLEVIATE GLOBAL WARMING WITHOUT THE LOSS OF BILLIONS OF LIVES AND TRILLIONS OF OTHER ORGANISMS.
How? Through proper cooperation, through the sharing of ideas and innovations, and most importantly, through the fast action of all the humans on mother earth.

Please join me in helping the world achieve a green solution so that your children and their children can witness the magnificence of Mother Earth.

  1. Global warming is stoppable. People need to start using solar technology. I have done some research on Solar Power and have created a little blog about it. Please visit my blog and give feedback. Thanks.

  2. The use of solar energy will probably fluctuate in the coming years thanks to the environmental hype but, unfortunately, more than half of the world cannot afford to introduce or make a commitment to it due to the high setting-up costs and huge space occupied.
Thanks for the great blog though. I'll place a link of it on mine and would appreciate if you do the same.
